Pilates>General
| Q.Is Pilates like Yoga? |
A.Both Pilates and Yoga are mind-body systems of exercise that focus on coordinating movement with the breath to create a more focused workout. Yoga uses a more relaxed breath allowing the abdominals to rise, whereas Pilates focuses on maintaining the abdominal connection throughout the breath. Yoga holds positions for a certain length of time, whereas Pilates is continuous movement. Yoga focuses more on stretching to the end range, whereas Pilates focuses first on stabilizing a joint and then safely lengthening to your individual range.

| Q.What is the difference between mat Pilates and equipment Pialtes? |
A.Mat Pilates is done on the floor on a mat and tends to be more challenging to the abdominals as you move your own body weight without support. It is not recommended for people with lower back issues.
Equipment pilates consists of over 700 exercises using a Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, and Barrels. The equipment provides support for the low back so the abdominals can be safely strengthened. The equipment also provides a more total body workout. Click for more information about Pilates equipment...

| Q.Will I lose weight? |
A.Pilates is not intended to be a fast paced, cardiovascular workout. As you progress to intermediate and advanced classes, you will find your heart rate at a "low-impact" level throughout the workout. Pilates will increase lean muscle mass, which will increase your metabolism; a cardio regime is recommended to add the fat-burning component needed to shed pounds.
|
| Q.How long before I see results? |
A.Just as every body is different, every body responds differently to the workout. Some clients notice improved posture and less back pain in just a few sessions. Some clients have lost considerable weight after several months of Pilates in conjunction with a nutrition plan tailored to their metabolic type.

Pilates>The Studio
| Q.What's the difference between a duet, trio and class, and are they at set times? |
A.Pilates duets and trios are like semi-private personal training sessions. You still get a lot of individual attention but at a reduced price from a private personal training session.
- Duets are 2 students in a session.
- Trios are 3 students in a session.
- A class is a session with 4-6 students.
The sessions are at set times, generally twice a week. |
| Q.Why don't you post a schedule of classes? |
| A.Pilates requires a lot of focus, and it is of utmost importance that students understand the fundamentals before joining a class. The classes also keep advancing in the exercises from essential to intermediate to the advanced level. With pilates, proper form is everything. That is why I recommend taking a few privates before joining a group, so we can assess the best class to put you into. |
| Q.How should I start? |
| A.It is recommended that you start with three private lessons before joining a beginner class. You may also want to have one or two friends start with you, which will bring down the cost. |
| Q.How often should I attend? |
A.Two times a week at least is recommended so that your progress will be consistent. If you can only come once a week, you will still derive benefits, but the progress will be a little slower.
|
| Q.I am very fit and coordinated. Do I still need private sessions before joining class? |
A.Yes! In order to reap the benefits of Pilates as well get the most for your time and money, the exercises must be done correctly. Learning correct form first is also for your safety and for the benefit of the other people in the class. You will appreciate this rule when you are the veteran member of a class. If you have prior Pilates experience and sufficient knowledge of the exercises, this requirement will be waived.
|
| Q.How long are the sessions? |
A.55 Minutes.
|
| Q.I'm going to be away. Will I have to pay for missed classes? |
| A.As long as you call the studio at least 24 hours in advance, you will not be charged. |
Nutrition & Lifestyle
| Q.What is metabolic typing? |
| A.One man’s food is another’s poison. There is no
one-size-fits-all dietary solution. Just as some car engines are designed to run
on gasoline while others can’t run without diesel fuel, every body has
a unique engine of metabolism that requires specific kinds of food in
order to function efficiently.
We take it for granted that we all look very different on
the outside; yet we give
no thought to the fact that there is a vast variety of metabolic and
biological diversity among us on the inside. At one end of the spectrum
are people who thrive on diets high in protein and fat. At the other
end are people who function best on high carbohydrate, low-fat diets.
You may fall into one of these categories or anywhere in between.
Even if you’re consuming only the highest quality foods and supplements available, it’s
entirely possible that you’re malnourished because you lack what your particular
metabolism requires to function properly. However, if your diet is tailored to your metabolic type, you can expect strengthened
immunity; ongoing energy and endurance; a slowing of the aging process; and permanent
weight loss without struggle, deprivation or calorie restriction.
When you eat foods that effectively support your own unique engines
of metabolism, your body will reach its ideal weight. If you’re
struggling and not enjoying yourself, you’re definitely not on the
right diet. I encourage you to discover for yourself the benefits to be derived
from pursuing a diet that’s customized for your metabolic type.

Energy Dressing
| Q.Is Energy Dressing just about style? I already keep up with the latest fashions. |
| A.No, Energy Dressing goes beyond your clothing. People get so much more out of the classes than they expect. You will learn your "unique" style or "energy type". This is important so you can present your true face to the world. That is what determines how people respond to you and what comes your way. Dressing in your "energy type" is a communication tool. Bringing it in focus can change everything for you.
Not only will you look good, but understanding your unique "energy type" can mean you see yourself for the first time as who you really are. Your identity, along with your innate strengths and gifts becomes clear. This gives you an inner confidence and freedom. |
Power Plate
| Q.What is the Power Plate and Whole Body Vibration therapy? |
| A.Power Plate is a pleasantly vibrating platform that generates mechanical vibrations in three dimensions, producing natural, rapid, subconscious muscle contractions throughout the body. This Whole Body Vibration therapy is based on a response that is hard-wired into human physiology, called the piezoelectric effect. Anytime your muscles tense and flex, small vibrations are created in the bones surrounded by those muscles. While standing on the vibrating plate, the body’s postural muscles
contract anywhere from 30 to 50 times a second, increasing the force
placed on muscle fibers by a factor of 3 Gs, or 3 times the force of
gravity. This results in an increase in muscle strength 20-30% more than conventional
strength training. |
| Q.How does the Power Plate help with osteoporosis? |
A. When combined with the right supplements
and diet, the Power Plate is the ideal tool to help combat osteoporosis since this revolutionary machine was designed specifically to increase bone density. The Russians were the first to study mechanical vibration therapy to combat the severe reduction of bone density in their cosmonauts returning from space. It
has been proven that weight-bearing exercise generates a small
electrical current in bone, which stimulates it to grow. Even just
flexing your muscles creates small vibrations in the bones surrounded
by the muscles. With the Power Plate, you experience
30 to 50 vibrations per second, which enormously
stimulates the bone tissue. In recent studies, the hind legs of adult sheep were placed on the vibrating platform for 20 minutes a day for a year. At the end of the study, the density of spongy bone in the animals’ thighs was 34% higher.
|
| Q.How does the Power Plate improve hormone levels? |
| A.Studies have shown that levels of the "stress hormone" cortisol
decrease tremendously while using the power plate. At the same time,
the vibrations have a profound effect on anti-aging hormones such as
DHEA, "the mother hormone", increasing it to more youthful levels. In
addition, growth hormone and testosterone, which are important for
regeneration and repair processes, also increase. |
Q.How does the Power Plate compare to conventional fitness training methods?
|
| A.The Power Plate provides conditioning benefits in a fraction of the time traditional exercise routines require. A one hour workout in the gym can be done in 15 to 20 minutes on the Power Plate. The Power Plate is able to offer fast results by working efficiently from the inside out, activating 95-97% of the muscle tissue. In comparison, conventional fitness machines only work 30-40% of the muscle fibers. There is also a lot less strain put on the joints, ligaments, and
tendons during vibration training than with conventional weight
training. Power Plate
training is a program you can fit into any schedule with the added advantages of being both super effective and totally safe.
